The Performing Musicians Employers Association of Nigeria with the acronym PMAN is an organization founded by some prominent Nigerian musicians which includes Christy Essien Igbokwe Sunny Ade, Tony Okoroji, Sonny Okosun etc. in 1984 to guide, protect and promote the interest of musicians in Nigeria. PMAN was registered in the same year (1984) under the Trade Unions (Amendment) Act No. 22 of 1978 to regulate music activities in terms of performance and promotion; to seek royalties, honorarium (public display of intellectual content) and cater for the welfare of music artistes in the country. The national body of PMAN with headquarters in Lagos operates with State Chapters which Benue State is among. Trade Union: PMAN is the only trade union in Nigeria's entertainment industry, representing musicians' interests.
The Benue State Chapter of PMAN began in 1989 as a coordinating unit with Mr. Polycarp Iwodi as the State Coordinator. He would later put together young budding talented musicians such as David Abeke, Fidel Shamel, late Philon Brown, late Joe Brass, Robert Udende, Ital Bonny, Eugene Eupoglia and a lot more of them to form what is today a full-fledged Chapter of PMAN in Benue State.
Benue State is naturally blessed with many gifted musicians. As early as the 1960s and 70s through the 80s, Benue musicians were already flourishing on the national and international music stages with notable names as late Papa Rosco Agabo, Bongos Ikwue, late Jim Numbe, Madman Jagga Dabo etc. These big acts were authorities in there different gifts; exceptional as songsters, instrumentalists or band leaders. Knowingly or not, the these talented music fathers mentored many young talents and today, it is evident in popular names as Zaaki Azzay, Tuface Idibia, Black Faze, Terry G and a host of others making waves up the big stage. The birth of PMAN in Nigeria operating across the states has produced administrative leadership and here too, Benue is actively involved in PMAN politics and administration. At the national terrace of PMAN administration, Benue had Zaaky Azzay as National 2nd Vice President while Aital Bonny is the National General Secretary and Paul Bem Faga as Assistant General Secretary. This put Benue State Chapter of PMAN in a position to enjoy uncommon privileges at the Notional Headquarters.
